Energy Transition
Much of Latvia’s heat and electricity still comes from imported natural gas. The Latvian government is therefore interested in diversifying supplies and in developing more local resources to reduce the country’s reliance on foreign sources of energy. To reach these targets, the government has put focus on wind and solar energy. Many stretches of the Baltic coast have wind conditions suitable for wind parks.
To achieve the potential of offshore wind, Latvia needs to invest big amounts of time, energy and capital into its supply chain. Latvian companies are eager to understand and benefit from the opportunity and they are looking for partnerships to help them do it. Since Denmark is one of the leading countries in offshore wind, Danish skills and experience with wind turbine projects are in high demand. In order to support the Danish opportunities for export to the market, The Trade Council in Latvia has been in ongoing dialogue with the Latvian authorities regarding offshore wind, e.g. to highlight Danish competences and promote Danish solutions. The Trade Council in Latvia therefore has a well-established network of stakeholders in the wind industry and can help facilitate contacts and put Danish companies in a good position in relation to seizing the export opportunities.
There is also an increased focus on green solutions and technology improvements in the Latvian district heating sector, where focus areas are infrastructure expansion, a connection of decentralized customers, sustainable energy resources and technologies, digitalization, synergy with industries, and heat storage. All areas speak to the Danish district heating sector and therefore create good opportunities for Danish exporters and consultants in the district heating sector.
