Biometric residence cards

Biometrics must be obtained when the application is lodged. In order to issue biometric residence cards, installation of special equipment for taking photos and recording fingerprints and signature is necessary.

Apply biometrics at the Danish Embassy in Riga

The Danish Embassy in Riga can process applications for biometrics in residence and work permit cases presented by applicants residing in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. Please be aware that you must gather all mandatory documentation before visiting the embassy:

- passport valid 3 months beyond the return date and issued during the last 10 years;

- residence permit in the country of residence, if relevant;

- two payment receipts: receipt for payment to SIRI indicating Case Order ID number and receipt for payment to the Embassy via

- mandatory documents which have not been uploaded during online application.

Information on processing of your fingerprints and photograph for the use of identification and verification of identity within the immigration area

In connection with your application for a residence permit, your fingerprints and photograph will be taken (biometric data) for the purpose of identification and verification of identity in the immigration area.

Your fingerprints and photograph will be recorded in the immigration authorities' register for which the Ministry of Immigration and Integration, the Immigration Ser-vice and the Agency for International Recruitment and Integration are responsible.

Your fingerprints and photograph will be stored for 20 years after they were taken. If you are granted a residence permit in Denmark, your biometric data will instead be stored for 10 years after they were taken. However, if you are granted Danish citizenship, your fingerprints and photograph will be deleted from the immigration authorities' register.

Regarding your rights as a data subject

You are entitled, upon request, to be informed about the nature of the information being processed by the immigration authorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark or the police, as well as about the purpose of the processing, the catego-ries of recipients of such information, and the origin of the information. You may submit such a request to the following:

Please provide information on your personal identification number, case number or other specific information which can help the authorities find the biometric data related to you which they are processing.

You are entitled to raise an objection against the immigration authorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the police processing your biometric data to the Ministry of Immigration and Integration, the Immigration Service or the Agency for International Recruitment and Integration which are responsible for the immi-gration authorities' register. If these authorities are processing incorrect or misleading personal data or in a similar manner process personal data in contravention of the law, the Ministry of Immigration and Integration, the Immigration Service and the Agency for International Recruitment and Integration, which are keeping the register of biometric data, are required to rectify, block or potentially delete the information in the immigration authorities' register.
